What do liars do after they die
Interesting how the character manages to get the ground floor where escape is the fastest. Guessing that she never wanted to kill Gat but he somehow got trapped.
To play innocent she injured herself to hide it. Rosanna-Lise Oct 02, PM 0 votes. This was a strange book for me, I related to it and I didn't.. I think we've all been there in a sense of urgency of doing something before we think it through. That quick decision that we can't take back.
Fire can start slowly but with fuel it can engulf before a blink of the eye, it's the most terrible thing. Has anyone had that split second of power and intoxication where the second you've done it you wish you could take it back?

I don't think they believe the fire was accidental I would guess they know the older children set it but they cannot know Cadence's involvement as the ring leader or else why would they be so nice to her. Also I found it odd that none of the parents wanted to push her as the only one who survived to find out what really happened.
I know they were aware she didn't remember but if my child perished in a fire I would want to push the survivor to remember and tell me what happened. No one seems to have discussed this part of the book.
Saira Apr 17, AM 0 votes. Well it was a good thriller novel that kept me from guessing what really happened in that summer break. Cadence character was interesting but i was a bit annoyed at her regarding Gat and her relationship with him. I mean she literally went on a world tour and visited so many places but all she could think of was Gat and that beach, even though he had a girlfriend and he wasn't there when she got sick.
But i guess it kind of makes sense regarding that he was dead. As far as the fire is concerned, it was pure stupidity on Cadence part. How is it even possible. Monnie Jun 20, PM 0 votes. We were in the car and about disc 3 I sat up and said "Holy shit! They're dead. To me how it happened was still a twist though. I didn't think they actually set the fire or that there even was a fire until it was revealed. I don't think it is a problem for me that their plan was stupid because people can be intelligent but not have a lot of common sense.
Angelaitrechio May 25, AM 0 votes. So sad View 1 comment. Sara Jun 10, PM 0 votes. I figured out they were dead right after her mom said ' mooning at Cuddletown or whatever it is you were doing' i was positive they're dead.
Tiana Feb 09, PM 0 votes. I agree! This is why I was looking through the goodreads reviews of this book as well. You don't set a fire from within a house! However, I still rated the book 5 stars and chalked up the mistake to youth and them being drunk not really thinking through the plan. Ahmed Mar 08, PM 0 votes. With no memory of the fire or their deaths. So, if Cady is presumably chilling alone on the island and doesn't remember she killed the liars, why didn't the aunts find it strange that she never once asked where the liars were?
I thought they were supposed to wait until everyone was out, and then they would light it, but cadence was drunk and forgot. Lena Jun 17, AM 0 votes. I wasn't expecting that, such a good twist, good and tragic twist. Jay Feb 03, AM 0 votes. Sheila Feb 21, PM 0 votes. So at the end, Cadence tells I might read the book now. Yesenia Oct 29, PM 0 votes. Did they literally die? I got really confused at the end and I might of cried. Whitney Jun 19, AM 0 votes. I don't know how I feel about the ending.
I seem to be one of the few readers who hasn't seen a similar movie and wasn't really thinking about the big plot twist, so when I got to the ending, I was completely floored. But, I agree. For "smart kids" they should've been smart enough to think about the consequences of this idea. And the idea of this being covered up That seemed a little unbelievable to me. Also, this has nothing to do with the ending, but did anyone else take issue with Gat constantly being referred to as "other"?
He's always the Indian boy my racist grandfather doesn't like or the "mouse" or the "beast" or the "animal" Lisa Dec 19, AM 0 votes. I also think that what they did to burn the mansion was not a bright idea. If they were bright kids they would have thought , hey lets start a fire on the bottom floor of the mansion and let the fire set the rest of the mansion ablaze. But near the end of the novel you could see that the other kids were dead by how they did not respond to the emails, or the gifts, or anything.
When if they were alive they would be able to. Val Apr 22, AM 0 votes. I was very confused by this book. In summer 17 was that all in her head. All along they were dead? Or were they all there? Overall the book was ok, but I thought it was going to be way better. A bit disappointedly becUse it did not get if they were actually alive or not. It was a very poetic book where they didn't tell you exactly what was happening.
Quietly Jun 10, AM 0 votes. Yeah, I was kind of confused with that bit too And then her reaction afterwards was kind of surprising. Considering that she was so upset about the dogs, why wasn't she more upset about Gat and her cousins?
Fire With Fire by Jenny Han had an ending similar to this. Marcy, have you read Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas.
I haven't actually read Liar, but I think this book would be similar to it. Jenk May 27, PM 0 votes. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who was annoyed with the ending.
I mean it just seemed so unbelievable that these kids could have come up with such a flawed plan considering how intelligent they all seemed. I also figured out pretty early on that the other cousins and Gat were all dead by the clues on how they never came out of that Cuddle house. FrozenImmortality Aug 03, PM 0 votes. I personally was gripped by the ending. I did shed a few tears, not gonna lie! It was the bit at the end when Mirren, Johnny and Gat swam away from Cadence, that message really killed me.
I then realised that when Cadence went to climb the cliff side to jump off, and they told her it wasn't safe, it was because they were already dead, so they couldn't get hurt, but she could! The ending was a painful one, but I changed a little in my head I imagined that Cadence swam off with them. I didn't think Lockhart would go that route for the story though.
Kaitlynn Jun 03, PM 0 votes. I loved the ending, mostly because it just came out of no where. I feel like I should have seen it coming but didn't. There were definitely clues but at the time I didn't notice them, kind of like The Sixth Sense where you notice he doesn't talk to anyone but the kid the second time you watch it. I went back after and reread a few parts to see what I missed. I love books that surprise me, and this did that. I agree though, their plan was awful.
Not sure how four supposedly smart kids came up with that. Also, why did they think no one would realize it was arson? They doused the place in gasoline! Rachel May 09, AM 0 votes. BUT what I really want to pick your mind with is: did Cady end up in the sea because she was delirious and lost control or was she found in the sea because she was overwhelmed with guilt and tried to kill herself? Bel Feb 25, AM 0 votes. Her mum probably told the other people on the island that Cady might be acting strange, which was why no one pointed out the fact that she was talking to herself.
Although confusing, I have to say that I enjoyed this book very much. In a way, I was satisfied with the ending but after a lot of thought, I guess I'm really not.
I too find it hard to believe that these kids would come up with such a flawed plan, considering how mature and intelligent all of them are.
I also don't understand how Cadence herself didn't oblige to the lighting of the house from the inside but I also do agree that I think their decisions were based upon emotion instead of logic.
Mnc18 May 31, PM 0 votes. Gwen May 27, AM 0 votes. I was honestly shocked by the ending and did not think through the actual logistics of the fire. I could see where drunk, emotional, keyed-up teenagers could make those mistakes. I loved the book, but I new something very bad was coming I just didn't realize how bad!
Rika Jun 08, AM 0 votes. The ending just ruined the book. Her dad, a college history professor, got sick of her rich, power-tripping granddad Harris Sinclair , and he left.
The four of them are known among the family as the Liars. The last thing Cadence remembers about summer fifteen is waking up on the beach half-dressed, with none of the other Liars there. During the first year of her recuperation, she emailed the Liars often, but none of them ever answered her. Cadence starts writing fairy tales , in which there are always three sisters and a king. She just knows someone else could use her pillow, toothbrush, picture frames, and books more than she could.
Her doctors have said it would be best for her to remember on her own. Her cousin Taft calls just before she arrives to tell her that Cuddledown , one of the houses on the island, is haunted, and to ask if Cadence is a drug addict. She has exactly one month on Beechwood Island to figure out what went down. When their mothers tried to suck the Liars into the drama, demanding that they ask Harris for specific items, the Liars rebelled. After a big blowup one night, in which everyone else left Beechwood Island , they stayed behind and burned Clairmont down.
The Liars thought that if they destroyed the stuff the whole Sinclair family was fighting over, everyone would stop fighting.
Cadence remembers the gory details. She, Johnny , Mirren , and Gat doused the Clairmont rooms with gasoline and torched the place. She presses Gat for details, but all he can say is that being romantic with her for the past month was a mistake. Cadence finally recalls that the Liars were all trapped inside Clairmont, too. They all died in the fire. She was the only one who escaped. She goes to Cuddledown to tell the Liars she knows the truth.
